The coast is three hours away. Ilhabela, Ubatuba and the colonial streets of Paraty are worth the extra days.

TIPS AND TRICKS

Direct flights land at Guarulhos from Amsterdam, Paris and Lisbon. An EU passport needs no visa for a short stay. Nobody carries cash — cards, Pix and Uber cover everything.
